I have watched a lot of films this week such as In and out(新郎向後跑) ,Sleepless in Seattle(西雅圖夜未眠), The bucket list(一路玩到掛) , and Jersey girl(紐澤西愛未眠).
I would recommend all of them because they are really inspiring films.
‘In and out’ is a film that Donna showed us in the oral training class. Why would she show us this film? Well, this is a film discussing about the self-confidence, the stereotype toward the love, and the self-esteem orderly. First, Howard who is a generous guy as literature teacher inspires countless students. One of his students then becomes a super star in Hollywood and gives a speech about his influential teacher, Howard that is gay. Suddenly, Howard’s life is in chaos. He tries to repress his sexual orientation, but he can’t continue lying himself after he got kissed. Therefore, he decides not to get married with a girl who has waited him for three years. In contrast, this girl who is not confident of herself is crying all over because she thinks there is no good guy in the world. Even worse, a gay teacher is not able to teach anymore because the board of directors dismisses his job. However, he is a competent teacher who helps many students enroll into ideal universities. Besides, he is just honest to himself and comes out of his secret to everyone. Who should be blamed for it and is he doing something wrong ? Anyway, this film brings a lot of controversial issues up. It leaves a lot of spaces to be discussed.
‘Jersey girl’ talks about a father who independently raises a kid and sets a good example to every man in the world. ‘how can he have no sex life for 7 years’ said cashier in the video shop. Hence, this cashier decides to have sex with him, but his kid just came home witness them making out. Then this kid starts to blame both of them in a serious tone. It reminds me that this girl really needs a new mother and help her understand the changes on her body. Finally, this man decides to quit a well-paid job in New York, and he is in a hurry to attend his kid’s performance. He finally knows that only family can give him the biggest happiness in the world. Though he has some quarrels with his father or his daughter sometimes, those fights stabilize their relationships more tightly.
As for ‘The bucket list’ and’ Sleepless in Seattle ’, I will comment on them next time

A blessing in disguise
I eventually succeed in applying for the exchange program. I will study in Innsbruck, Austria in the academic year 2008-2009. Though there have been so many difficulties and trials, I find all of them are good lessons making me more mature and more responsible. Today, I am trying to go over every difficulty in the process, and it dawned on me that every difficulty is connected to each other.
My TOEFL iBT socre is not so high compared with the competitors this year. I was feeling not very good because I spent 5500 NT dollars which I earned by myself taking the most expensive exam I have encountered in my life and there were still some problems at the day of my TOEFL exam. I was a little sad about this and afraid of losing the exchange opportunity not because of my abilities but because of the iBT’s problem. However, I still can go to my second choice, Innsbruck. My first choice is Tuebingen University, which is located in southern Germany. And my second choice is Innsbruck University which is located in western Austria. Because my TOEFL score is not high enough, I am not able to go to Tuebingen University. However, this is a blessing in disguise.
I contact a friend who is German studying in Innsbruck I met last summer vacation. He would return back this September as I do because he is an exchange student in Hong Kong now. And he is a very special foreigner I met in my life such as being very thoughtful, considerate, and generous. Hence, I really feel studying there is very cool now for me. Besides, Fanny who is Taiwanese will go to the same university together, and I can’t wait for the adventure with her and included Vicky who is also my classmate in the English oral training class. I think it will be really cool going there with them and find my good friend.
Of course, Kuba is also a cool foreigner who is willing to make efforts to keep in touch with friends from thousands of miles away. That’s really extraordinary because of what you have done. In addition, I think that Austria is much closer to Poland. That will be rock, and I hope I probably can have an exotic Christmas this year as long as anyone would like to invite me. Chi-lian who is a friend I made in Ballroom dancing club will leave for Poland to start his new life two days later. I hope I would also meet him there. Finally, I long for meeting my cousin who is now in Britain before she comes back to Taiwan. By the way, I also get a refund from ETS. Everything comes back with good results. In sum, I just can conclude it, ‘a blessing in disguise.’

Summary to 'Is anybody listening?'
In ’Is Anybody Listening,’ David Daniels claims that students required to be immersed in the discussion in the smaller classes will terminate students’ passivity and benefit students. According to Daniels, the lecture system has caused fierce controversy for many centuries. The lecturer was not challenged very often because of the scarcity of books. Likewise, the condition still exists nowadays. He gives an example of Mary witnessing the disadvantages of lecture system and then realizing that ‘the professor is as bored as his audiences nodding off or doodling in their textbooks.’ He says that ‘students must learn to listen before they can listen to learn,’ a useful tip for most of learners who are inclined to think instead of attentively listening. Finally, he suggests that students should be responsible for their ‘intellectual growth’ rather than depend on the professor only. Otherwise, the professor would sloppily lecture and not be beneficial to students. In fact, I have found that the ‘lecture system’ has influenced my life and the lives of people in many significant ways.
There were so many uncreative and compulsory lectures that I barely learned anything while I was still a freshman. Every class, students just sat down, opened the textbook, paid attention to the slides, and then turned into dozing off or daydreaming with their notebooks because professors only repeated exactly the same content from both slides and textbooks. That’s why professors are as bored as their audiences. Hence, either side is wiser than the other. Even worse, listeners only browsed through textbooks and memorized a list of unimportant truism for the final exam. Then they forget much of what they have memorized. I had two required classes, Introduction To Business and General Knowledge Lectures. I am so happy at that time due to the fact that I would have more understandings about the field of marketing. With the passion for marketing, I always preview every chapter that the professor will lecture and go over what I have learned. Nevertheless, I am gradually disappointed at the impersonality of the lecture system that professors taught in a boring way and forfeit the ability of learning driven by motivation. Only until I am junior and senor will I be able to choose the subjects interesting to me.
Big classes which seldom required students to bury themselves into discussions alienate the interaction between students and professors. Students are unique and have their own critical thinking toward everything. It’s much harder in big classes for listeners to share their ideas or questions with professors and classmates. Then, audiences can only listen attentively in order to acquire their desirable knowledge. However, there is a research showing that most learners can assimilate information easier through discussion instead of listening attentively. After all, the more you ponder about know-how, the more relevant it will be to you. I had a very good friend, Joseph, throwing up his questions to professors very often. Owing to the big size of classes, he usually couldn’t discuss with professors and in fact they are not so willing to respond to the spontaneous questions that students brought up. Hence, Joseph makes up his up to drop out of his college life because of his poor interaction with professors.
Seldom challenged approaches of unidirectional lecture would result in many social problems. Students -always learning from lecturers without pursuing their desirable knowledge- don’t have enough creativity and independent thinking. Once they encountered real difficulties in the world, they are not capable of solving fickle problems. In other word, they don’t even try to deal with fickle difficulties because they believe in one answer to the problem and are extremely inflexible to finger another solution out. Gradually, the suicide rate soars higher and higher owning to the fact that they never know what lives are and incline to evade the pressure. Likewise, because of their concrete minds toward jobs, they can’t endure the hard toil of the job to the end, complained all the time, and quit jobs easily. Therefore, unemployment rate is also getting higher and higher recently. One of my good friends, Jack, committed suicide three years ago. He, graduating from technical school, majored in computer science. He smoothly found his first job as a computer operator as soon as he fulfilled his compulsory military. However, he found that there were so many groups in the company, and he was forced take sides instead of being impartial. In addition, the orders from the supervisor would sometimes conflict with that of the leading manager. With the concrete mind and inflexible thinking, he decided to commit suicide because he doesn’t know how to solve it. Then what he remained is the brutal truth, making his friends inclusive of me and his family inconsolable
David Daniels has raised an issue that shocks us all, for all of us, in our lecture system, making consequences bad in the long run. We seldom face the long-existing lecture system. I am resigned to the system and awaited better when I am a junior and senior, and then I can be empowered to choose my desirable class; audiences in a relationship wishes that professors can interact with students, respond to their questions, and enhance mutual understandings and knowledge; and people gradually forfeiting the abilities of flexible and critical thinking lead miserable lives because of concrete mind that lecture system causes. We are, indeed, all victims of the lecture system. Maybe that lecture has been an inflexible curse on humankind for a long time.

Why have I been sick for one week ?
Some doctors can save your life; some can make your disease worse than you imagine. I was not diagnosed as the ‘exact disease’ at the beginning and the first doctor even threatened me with creeping warning. The situation was not getting well until I went to see another doctor. From now on, I know how important it is for patients to get treatments with ‘right doctors.’
Last Monday, I rode my motorcycle from National Chung-Hsing university to the金典酒店, which is located on 中港 road. My original purpose of going the education fair, held unitedly by the U.S. and Canada, is to understand more information of studying there. On the contrary, I met so many classmates from English department, who are responsible for interpreting between Chinese and English. To be honest, I didn’t find a lot of useful information because I had general understanding about the formalities. Except for it, I did have a great time there. There was a professor from Canada whose age is almost the same as my grandma promoting her university very much. Although I didn’t ask for anything initially, she was still vigorous to help me. I love her so much. Super cool grandma. And I also met two other instructors, resembling Jean Reno and Tobias Maguire. I give them a lot of wonderful information such as the best bar in Taichung and the best food in Taiwan. As a conventional Taiwanese boy, I suggested them to eat stinky To-Fu and omelet with oysters. What a ‘G’day’ is. Further, I also bought my new leather shoes for the interview, which decides my destiny of being exchange students.
Here comes the tragedy. I got a terrible cough and fever on the following day. I even lost my sense of direction, passing out in the PE class, and eating nothing. Hence, my roommate took me to the first doctor. The first doctor made a lot of bluffs to me. Before he said those bull shits to me, he asked me whether I saw other doctor advanced. How unprofessionally he is. And he threatened me to go back to his clinic every winter instead of telling me the truth. Four days later, my condition became much worse though I took all the medicine he prescribed to me. What a creepy doctor is.
On Sunday, my parents asked me to check another doctor. Then I knew the reason why I got a serious fever and cough. Besides, this doctor taught me the importance of wearing mask wile I took the motorcycle, especially in Taichung. Finally, I knew why I got the disease, which past bad virus into my body in the polluted air. Although I am not recovering yet, I indeed feel much better. Tomorrow, I will go to see the ‘latter’ doctor again to ensure everything is all right now.

BSB live band in Taipei arena
![]() |

On March second, I had a closest interaction with my superstar, back street boy (BSB). The first English song I heard was sung by them. Afterward, I have been starting learning English industriously since 8 years ago. For example, ‘Everybody’, ‘Shape of my heart’, and ‘The call’ are their masterpieces when they started to become one of the famous bands in the world. Although they can’t dance very well, their harmonious voices convey peaceful, enjoyable, and resounding messages.
At the beginning, my sister and I was hesitating whether to go to the live concert or not because she still needs to go to work on Monday morning as a English teacher. However, we suddenly found that this is a precious opportunity that BSB came to Taiwan twelve years ago. Try to imagine, how has s band remained popular over twelve years? Undoubtedly, they must have their unique feature and continuous efforts on their music. This is why BSB’s music has descended to this day. Without culture barrier, their songs are reaching everywhere in the world. For example, one time I went to KTV with foreigners from Europe, America, and Asia, etc. It was BSB’s songs that bridged the gaps among the different cultures. It was BSB’s songs that made us share the common memories in the past. Therefore, I couldn’t agree their influence on the world more. Finally, my sister and I spent 3500 NT dollars per each for the live concert.
The day is finally coming, and both of us are so excited to listen to it. Before entering Taipei arena (小巨蛋), we bought two lightsticks and spectacles so that we can wave our hands with the beat of music and see our superstars more clearly. Then we knew that we had worried too much because our seats are good enough to observe the all scenery of the stage. The opening song is really amazing though I forgot the exact name of it. However, four of them appeared with a good wrestling stage and humorous gesture. What an impressive and special opening for me is.
During the session, I prefer ‘ inconsolable’ , ‘I want it that way’, and ‘the Call’.
The second is also amazing. While they were playing cards, they sang the song with a relaxed attitude. Besides, Nick tried to refill his wine. That was really funny.
While Howie was singing ‘inconsolable’, he didn’t notice the gap in front of him. That’s why he fell down. The mean thing is that Nick sang the lyric, ‘Howie did you fall? ‘ That was really cool.
Brian said ‘you’ve been BSB been for a long time.’ And every one responded with the same word, yes. And he also recited every album that they have released and is curious about whether everyone heard all of their songs. Then he sang a newest song that is not released in the market yet. He is a ‘fun’ guy. I love his personality very much. I think I love him the most in terms of BSB this band.
AJ….He has a lot of ‘shocking ’ tattoo all over. But his gesture is really ’preposterous’. I remembered one of his gesture is that he forwarded his front part of his wait and backwarded it one after another…Try to imagine what it is gonna be.
A talented musician.. Nick can play a lot of instruments. And I am really indulged in his music world. That was really awesome. Besides, he is also the youngest one in this band. In the end of the live concert, Brian sticked his hand to Nick’s armpit . That was so ridiculous And he looks like a childlike boy after playing wildly for a whole day. What a spontaneous performance.
Anyway, thanks to my sister, Felicia, she invites me to participate in this live band with her. Therefore, I had this unforgettable experience in my life.
I love you so much, BSB.

My adventuring weekend
I have experienced the most adventuring weekends in my life. Why would I say that?
Sunday, I went to Taipei with my older sister. When we arrived in Taipei, it was about eleven thirty. Therefore, we walked around the breeze wind square, which cost substantial money. Although I have heard a lot of reputation about the breeze wind square from both magazines and TV news, I didn’t visit it in my life. After having a quick look of it, I started to understand why it is so renowned that tens of hundreds of people would like to have meals there.
Then, our uncle in Taipei picked us up and went to 菁桐, which is famous for the countryside atmosphere. Because my uncles children were studying in 菁桐, that’s why they almost know everyone in the small town. I love the tranquility there. Everything is natural there without any deliberate decoration. Besides, the education of the forest elementary school is good for the development of children because students seldom learn in the classroom. Instead, there are so many natural landforms can be used as the best material of geography class. For example , 十分 is renowned for the cascade and holes in the river. I have never seen the real cascade and spectacle cave in my life. It has been wonderful for me to gaze at the admiring scenery.
Finally, we went to 平溪, which is famous for the Chinese lantern. On January 15th in lunar calendar, there are always a lot of people writing their wishes on the lantern and then sent lanterns, which makes the dreams come true. I only saw it in the textbook. After having lived in Taiwan for 21 years, I finally see a real ceremony of setting off lanterns.
P.S. My sister and I also went to listen to the concert and I was a painter on Saturday. To be continued
