Revised essay : Death penalty

Against the Death Penalty

Should death penalty be abolished? Whenever the word “death penalty ” comes up, extremists from both sides speak up to defend their positions. One side says deterrence, the other side says it’s still likely for murderers to kill innocent people again; one side says the expense on the criminals would result in tremendous money waste, the other side says criminals can instead contribute to the gross domestic product; one side says justice, retribution, and punishment, the other side says execution is murder. Therefore, this topic has been a controversial issue for centuries. After I read all the three articles about this issue, I come to the conclusion that death penalty should be abolished because criminals who are innocent are able to reunite with their families, immerse themselves into community services, and make the world better off.

Many people think that “death penalty” is the best policy to protect them from harm. First, the death penalty can be a warning sign and deter people who intend to commit crimes. Especially those who are not afraid of breaking the law challenge the power of the law. If the government abolishes the death penalty, they can be easily released on parole. Afterward, they are able to kill people because they don’t dread violating the law but enjoy killing. Second, the death penalty can save the money wasted on the criminals because they don’t need to be sentenced to life imprisonment and cost tremendous money of income tax from domestic people. Then the government can make the best of the income tax to contribute to more public facilities. Third, the death penalty can make the victims’ friends and parents feel much better. According to the Old Testament, “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, and a life for a life.” By this, people can understand the definition of justice and realize the core of justice.

“Capital punishment all too frequently results in the execution of innocent people. Even worse, it might be racism.” (Rainella and Ford) Generally speaking, murderers can be divided into two groups, the premeditated murders and unpremeditated murders. Under the theory that capital punishment will deter crime, one who contemplates to murder will be deterred because he knows that if he is convicted he can be sentenced to death. This is widely believed. However, one commits crimes because of one’s emotional arousal. Maybe one isn’t committing it and is set up by someone else. Is this kind of capital punishment working out? Besides, after some are executed, some are proved to be innocent. Furthermore, “The blacks have committed forty-nine percent of all murders, and the whites are thirty-nine.”(Leykis) Are blacks more stupid and more barbarous than whites? Is the standard of capital punishment really fair to everyone?

The government is exaggerating the cost of imprisoning criminals nowadays and the rate of violent crime is increasing. “Most advocates of capital punishment exaggerate the expense of keeping a criminal in prison.”(Ford) Instead, people who are sentenced to life imprisonment can involve themselves in community service so that they can still contribute to the society. Through this method, our world will be better off. “Over the past 31 years in the U.S., the more Catholics there are in a given jurisdiction, the fewer the execution.”(Recinella) Through the influence of religion, people can become more rational and intelligent. Therefore, this phenomenon proves that keeping a criminal in prison is not pricey. Besides, not many criminals are put in jail right now and imprisonment are not waste of money at all according to the statement above.

Does death penalty really mean justice in terms of victims’ parents and friends? “We shouldn’t place only money and good and services in the balance.(Ford) Crimes are divided into two kinds, reversible and irreversible crimes. If someone steals your money, one just needs to put it back. Nevertheless, one burns your house or stabs your eyes; you also burn one’s house and stub one’s eyes. Does it make you intact or make you feel better? Under this condition, it’s not clear how the crime can be balanced. You are certainly not better off because one is balanced. The sufferings of victims for their family and friends have been devastatingly painful. How can one compense them for their suffering? How can one alleviate their suffering? Furthermore, people who executed murderers are under a lot of pressure. As for executors, they are really killing people now. Who would pity their feelings? Is this procedure so-called justice? Apparently, it’s not.

I support abolishment of the death penalty. Some people think that death penalty is the best way to prevent people from committing crimes; others think that death penalty can’t reduce the crime rate at all. Nevertheless, I can’t see why some people support death penalty. As long as the government abolishes death penalty, citizens can benefit a lot from the decision. Hence, we need to be open-minded and abolish the death penalty, so the world will become a Shangri-la.

Have you ever considered taking your education beyond your home institution, beyond the conventional class seats of the modern Vertical Campus edifice? Imagine navigating your interests through various courses, engrossed in a culture you were never able to closely inspect throughout the diversity of our City. Consider the enlightenment of a study abroad experience, for all it has to offer, even beyond the intellectual gain. The Study Abroad Fair is here to help students reach that level, if they so choose.

Study abroad has long been considered an important aspect of higher education. There is no limit to how your academic study can benefit through discovery in another setting and exploring your interests through another lens. Learning in a different institution could become a valuable tool to those interested in expanding their linguistic abilities, not to mention broadening their cultural horizons. Whether you travel for a month or a whole semester, you are bound to sample the culture through daily exposure to native, communal residence.

While the primary purpose of your trip is for an enriched academic study, you can use your time wisely to explore nearby cities, even neighboring countries. By planning weekend excursions in advance, you could experience an extremely productive month in your academic career. Before you know it, you could be hopping from cities to countries, (and it better be with your course textbooks at hand - after all, your primary goal is to obtain credit and do successfully in the course).

While various programs offer different benefits, you may want to opt for one that is headed by a CUNY school. Receiving credit and determining equivalency measures is easily done when the program is linked to your home CUNY institution. There is also the convenience of the close proximity which helps with paperwork and such.

The Study Abroad Office is hosting a Study Abroad Fair on Thursday, February 16 from 12:00-3:00 p.m. in VC 14-250. Representatives from CUNY, SUNY, and other Study Abroad providers will be available to help you learn more about their different Study Abroad programs and how you can spend a semester, a year, the January intersession or a summer studying at a university or similar educational institution in another country.

Movies All The Time

I have seen a lot of films this week. Why would I do that ? I don't know actually. Probably after the accounting exam and the cancelled strategic management's exam, I would like to do something for fun.

Wednesday night, after the accounting exam, I had a great dinner with my good friends. We seldom ate meal together, and it has been a long time since we had dinner together. Two of them will work in America this summer vacation. One will study for the entrance exam. We had so many interested conversations at that day. And it was raining heavily, so it was another sort of fun to eat together. Then I had a good English conversation with Odem, Jack, and Nick. But there was coming a bossy girl who came from Australia. She even accused me of murmuring in class. What a terrible student and teacher there. Anyway, I still had a lot of fun and learned a lot from the class.

Thursday, Angela cancelled class today, so I am a little worried about her health. At the same time, I would like to do something different this semester. Therefore, I start to invite someone to hang out with me. After calling one after another, I find 小龍on her way home. However, she is also a spontaneous person like me. That's why I ride my scooter to the main train station to pick her up. Afterwards, we go to the日新theater. Strangely to say, we are so happy that I can't find the way to the theater. That's really interesting. After watching the movie, I take her home. Nevertheless, it is raining heavily, but I only have one rain coat. That's too bad, isn't it ? As a gentle man, I need to make her wear my raincoat. Cool day..Right…

Polish food in Miaoli, Taiwan

Polish food in Miaoli, Taiwan

I have eaten night snacks for two days after staying home. One of the main reasons for me to eat is that I got a big package from Poland which contains a lot of amazing food and gadgets. On Friday, I cooked some Chinese noodles with sauce and eggs. After that, my family started to eat desserts including Polish chocolate, chocolate cookies, and shrimp tail candies. My favorite is Polish chocolate because there are so many fruit and nuts insides. Most importantly, the sweetness of chocolate is appropriate for me so that I will not get too fat.

On Saturday, my family had a night snack again. Of course, I am responsible for cooking everything. After deep consideration of what I should cook, I decide to cook an authentic course with authentic formula and materials. First, I boil the water whose capacity is about 300 ml. Afterwards, I mix other cold water with Polish powders and then stir the thick sauce with cooked noodles. The authentic Polish noodles are finished right in front of me. Even I am in Taiwan now, I can make 100% delicious Polish cuisine. I feel a sense of achievement after cooking it. Then, I open a tuna can which is also sent from Poland. That is also different from the Taiwanese tuna can. As I taste it, I still can feel the fruit juice combined with the tuna. What a perfect combination in the world.

Right now, I would like to describe my family’s reactions to those Polish stuffs. First, all of my family members like the sweet stuffs from Poland such as chocolate and shrimp tail candies. Second, not everyone likes Polish sauce. My brother and father don’t like it very much because they think that it tastes too salty and too much cheese insides. Nevertheless, my mom, sister, and I love it very much. The flavor is very European and it’s not like those western restaurants in Taiwan. Probably not so many Taiwanese can accept this kind of sauce. I find it very tasty and yummy except a little high calorie. Anyway, I had a marvelous time getting along with my parents because of those Polish stuffs.

Finally, I also wear my new Polish T-shirt. Well, it should have fit on me, but it’s very ‘fit’ on me now. That means I need to do more exercise after so many good meals recently. For example, I had a buffet at school which was host by the International affair office at NCHU. Hence, I was completely stuffed at that time….How to make me become ‘smaller, ’ ‘we will see….

I love you so much

There are so many natural disasters these days. It dawns on me that I need to cherish my life more and make the best of my time. Especially, I would like to spend more time accompanying my parents.

I couldn’t remember the countless fights I had with my parents since I applied for being an exchange. Last week, I even squabbled over some ‘trial things’ with my parents. For example, I tell them that I want to stay in Taichung continually on the summer vacation. Hence, I could go to the cram school to study for my entrance exam and at the same time practice German as much as possible. Everything looks quiet and normal, but I find it subtle. ‘Father, did your foot become smaller? ’ said me. ‘Yes, I got amputated last week ’ said my father tranquilly. At that moment, I was smitten by my conscience. How could I quarrel with my parents ? Especially, they are facing the challenge in the fickle fate. As their son, I should have relived their burdens in metal and physical ways. Instead, I did something remorseful. At that night, my father would like to talk a walk with the wheelchair. Without hesitating, I am so willing to be the helper for my father. Therefore, we went to the night market around my home. And I try to explain those venders on the streets for my father so that he would be able to order his food.

Tonight, I was sitting in front of the computer and cried for a while. After all, I am a very sentimental boy. I feel regretful and remorseful. I pick up my cell phone and call to my parents. ‘What are you doing ?’ said me. This time, I just want to tell you how much I love you. The best place in the world is my home. I can’t find other warmer place then my home sweet home. Finally, I definitely go home this summer vacation to be with you.

Argumentative essay: Against the death penalty

Should death penalty be abolished? Whenever the word “death penalty ” comes up, extremists from both sides speak up for their arguments. One side says deterrence, the other side says it’s still likely for murderers to kill innocent people again; one side says the money on the criminals would result in tremendous money waste, the other side says criminals can instead contribute to the gross domestic product; one side says justice, retribution, and punishment, the other side says execution is murder. Therefore, this topic has been a controversial issue for centuries. After I read all the three articles about this issue, I come to the conclusion that death penalty should be abolished because criminals who are innocent are able to reunite with their families, immerse themselves into community services, and make the world better off.

People think that “death penalty” is the best policy to protect them from harm. First, the death penalty can be a warning sign and deter people who are intended to commit crimes. According to the Old Testament, “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, and a life for a life.” By this saying, people can understand the definition of justice and realize the core of justice.

“Most advocates of capital punishment exaggerate the expense of keeping a criminal in prison.”(Ford) Instead, people who are sentenced to life imprisonment can involve themselves into community service so that they can still contribute to the society. Besides, criminals are not a lot in the world right now and imprisonment are not waste of money at all.

Does the death penalty really mean justice in terms of victims’ parents and friends? “We shouldn’t place only money and good and services in the balance”(Ford) Crimes are divided into two kinds, reversible and irreversible crimes. I am for abolishing the death penalty. Some people think that death penalty is the best way to prevent people from hard; others think that death penalty can’t reduce the crime rate at all. Nevertheless, I can’t see why some people support death penalty. As long as the government abolishes the death penalty, citizens can benefit a lot from the act according to the above situations. Hence, we need to open our eyes and abolish the death penalty, so the world will become Shangri-la.

I am haunted by nightmares

I see the glass shattering on the street while I go to the German class this morning. Suddenly, I can remember my nightmare in detail last night. I suddenly realize that it has kept giving me nightmares for several days. What have happened on me? I am worried about everything again. Besides, the nightmares revive my memories of childhood. I have told myself that I forgive him for one hundred times over. However, the truth is that my subconscious doesn’t forget it.

My cousin, suffering from Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and I are like oil and water. He is just senior to me by one year. Hence, we have a lot of arguments while we are young. One day, he is out of his control and insane to ambush me. All of a sudden, while I arrive at home, he throws a tray which is intended to keep the hot soup from touching the surface of the desk into my face. I am bleeding all over on my face. I can’t remember anything, and I heard the sound of ambulance. I am lying down on the bed in the operating room. After being anesthetized, I fall asleep. Things go well, and the stitches are perfect on it. Things have passed for a long time, and I still can’t forget the terrible experience. Though the scar on my face is very vague now, the trauma seems to be permanent in my life.

I dreamed that he threw me into a pool that is full of shattered glass which are slashing my ligament, and thrusting into my bone. Therefore, I am not able to walk again. Screaming and yelling seem to be helpless while I am still in my nightmare. Probably, I need to have some mental treatment now. Am I really under a lot of pressure? I can feel a sense of anxiety is stuck into my heart.

Outrage over prince's helicopter

The British army’s shortage in Afghanistan is getting more and more serious. Nevertheless, William got his driving license of airplane one week ago. After that, he drove the helicopter all the way to his girlfriend’s lawn.

In my opinion, it is a way of showing up instead of normal training. According to the government, it is said that William landed for only 20 seconds. Hence, it’s a good way to get used to different terrain. For this landing, it cost about one million NT dollars. What if this money can be used to replenish the equipment in Afghanistan? However, the truth is that he is a privileged few and is entitled to special rights. This incident has caused a controversial issue in the UK.

This is a very common phenomenon in every country all over the world. People who have higher social status are entitled to more privileges. I still remembered the shocking news in Taiwan two weeks ago. Ordinary citizens reported to police that they received creepy text messages for at least 20 messages. The police said, ’you are not dying yet, and there is no evidence showing that the sender will be murderer.’ Then the receiver’s mom was murdered by the sender because of multiple stabs on her body. How cruel it is. If the police is willing to crack down on the crime, the crime rate must plummet. Instead, they just fawn on anyone in an influential position. It’s time for Taiwanese government to think about this issue again

Summary: Should death penalty be abolished?

In this article, Penalty of death, from on-line website, Henry Ford first reports that people will not repeat their crimes and government can save more budgets under the policy of capital punishment. Second, he explains the advantage of deterrence. Third, Ford quotes a saying from Old Testament, ”an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.” Third, he makes readers think about the definition of “justice.” Sentencing murderer to death is so-called justice? Fourth, what if you are the executors of ending the murderers’ lives? Where’s your compassion and who should be responsible for executing them? Fifth, Ford brings pay-back issue up so that crimes are divided into two kinds, reversible crimes and non-reversible crimes, which cause different damages to victims. Finally, he demonstrates that life imprisonment is not expensive at all according to the illustration and he is for abolishing the capital punishment.

I am for abolishing the capital punishment. On the one hand, if they are charged with life sentence, they will have more time involving themselves into community services. Gradually, their value of exiting is not wasting money at all. Instead, they are able to repent of their sins and atone for their actions in the past. On the other hand, people who are supposed to execute murderers don’t need to be smitten by their conscience. After all, humans are born with compassion. In sum, murderers have relationships and interaction with their family and relative. They are like fetus who don’t have any perceptions toward this world. Hence, it’s not proper to charge them with death penalty. And there is some other better way, life imprisonment.

Should homosexual couples adopt kids legally?

In this article, Belgium allows homosexuals adoption rights, Belga reported that homosexual couples are allowed to adopt children in Belgium. In June 2003, the upper parliament passed a law legalizing the right for homosexual couples to marry. Furthermore, in April 2006, the Senate approved the bill, which homosexual couples can adopt children legally, so children are possessed of a genuine status that is fundamental to their development.

I was so surprised that there are so many countries in Europe legalizing the right of homosexual couples’ adoption such as Spain, the Netherlands, Wales, and England. Besides, after the marry right for homosexuals, about five thousand took advantages of this law, and live happily ever after. It is just as well that the Senator also enacts a law to protect children adopted by homosexuals. In my opinion, it is extraordinary to me because children should be treated equally and share their rights. After all, everyone is destined to be labeled due to the reasons of their parents. Above all, it is the most important for us to take more cares to homosexual people who just have different sex orientation from us, but they should share the same rights with heterosexual people.

Looking for love or lust? Your face gives it away

April 11: Is it the look of love — or lust? A psychologist and an anthropologist talk about a new study that suggests that facial features show whether someone is more interested in a “fling” or a long-term relationship.

3C killer- the answer to the question is I

If you always wonder about who is 3C killer, this ‘prize’ goes to me, Tim.
Well, why would I mention that I am a killer? I am going to explain my misfortune these days. At the beginning, I didn’t know how devastating I am to electrical products until this week. It dawned on me that everything is not merely coincidence. After I spent 20 thousands NT dollars, which is not including my computer screen, buying the main machine for my computer such as CPU, motherboard, and graphic card, I have fixed my computer for four or five times within one and half year.

For learning German well and listening to English all the time, I decided to buy a radio half year go, and it cost about 25 hundreds NT dollars. I can’t understand why it is not working right now. Some body please explains those subtle incidents to me.

My computer screen died again last month within the first year. After I repaired it, my main machine died again so that I needed to spend about two thousand dollars repairing it.

Apart from those miserable experience, something wrong with my internet happened while I took the TOEFL exam. Though I got full refund from ETS, I am still not happy at all. I need to contemplate all the weird things. Why was and am I all the time?

Finally, as everyone knows, you will get two different chargers, normal chargers and trickle chargers after you buy a new cell phone. My trickle charger is not working as sons as I bought it in the first month. Hence, I need to charge my batteries by opening the cover with my normal charger.

Through those supernatural experiences with the electrical products within the two years, I have no choice but to face my ‘luck’ seriously. How can I be so bad in relation to the electrical products? I will buy a new laptop soon. Nevertheless, I am very worried about my new laptop’s destiny. God~~~~~~~~~Please give me blessings at least for one time……

Essay 2 : Films can tell us a lot about the country where they were made?

Have you ever wondered about how you can learn from movies? Have you wondered about the extravagance in the movies? However, almost every movie has its precision behind it and conveys the authentic messages with its surroundings according to the latest statistics conducted by the American institute. The credibility of research is ninety-eight or so. Would this fact overthrow your concept? To be honest, I am convinced that people can learn about a country from watching its movies and reflect on their past mistakes because I have learned a lot by watching films. Die Zwilinge, Jersey girl, and The kite runner provides me with European, American, and mid-eastern heritage and inspires me in broader perspective toward life.

I realize how influential Hitler is to European history according to the film, ’Die Zwilinge.’ It’s a German film describing twins separated from each other. One treated as a maid is allotted into Germany living with her uncle; in contrast to one, the other lives with her parents in the Netherlands. After experiencing many formidable difficulties, they are reunited in Germany for the first in their life. However, both of their fiancés are the victims of brutal wars at that time. A Jewish is dead in the concentration camp because of the inhuman genocide; an Austrian general is dead because of the truce never coming. With my complicated historical elements, twins never forgive each other until the last sleep of them. Owing to the fact that this is German film, it galvanizes me into learning German and enhances my horizon to understand another different culture. War is the most devastating thing in the world, especially genocide that causes tremendous casualties who shouldn’t be involved into war. Even worse, that war shattered many family’s hearts into pieces either German family or other intruded European countries. The twins are the best example, demonstrating that the relentless war breaks their dream of reunion.

I learn a lot of American cultures and life issues through the film, ‘Jersey girl.’ Trinke, playing a leading role, suddenly loses his beloved wife, dying of metrorrhagia, and he has no choice but to take care of his daughter alone. He is fired because he can’t accept the sad and startling news of the death of his beloved and mess up all of his works. Besides, he needs to encounter more challenges at the same time such as being a good father for his daughter and being a good son for his father. After his daughter is nice years old, he knows it’s about time for himself to open his mind and allows others to walk into his life apart from his daughter, his beloved. Finally, he is struggling whether to get a well-paied job in New York or to stay in New Jersey with his daughter, father, and Susan who is like sunshine on his cloudy sky. This film reminds me that how hard I was when my grandma passed away and I also had the same reaction as Trinke did. For example, I didn’t want to study anymore s and suffered from insomnia for the heart-breaking new. Everything is in chaos and I can’t resist the unrelenting destiny. It’s just as well that my religion helps me get over the hard time in my life. After I know life is full of fickleness, what I need to do is seize the day to savor every minute I have now.

I finally understand that the abundant mid-eastern legacies with the cinema, ‘The kite runner.’ This movie proceeds in chronological order. Amir born in a rich family is the main spotlight that settings change with him, so it provides the audience with plentiful authentic atmospheres there. Hassan born in a slum is a servant for Amir. Both of them are best friends ever, but Amir never admits while his friends are next to him. However, it ends up startling me that Hassan and Amir are siblings because his dying father revealed the cruel truth. After all, monogamy is highly stated that if people break this rule, they will get capital punishment for impure intercourse. Due to his conscience about what he has down to Hassan, he risks his life to go back his mother land, Afghanistan ruled by the Taliban regime, so he can make up for Hassan by saving his son leading a miserable life. Actually, I originally read this novel, which is an assigned textbook for American college students. Afterward, I watch this movie adapted from the novel. In my opinion, I really admire Amir’s courage because he is not necessary to go back to Afghanistan. To get rid of guilt at Hassan, he decides to face the similar challenge again and do his best to solve the problem though he might take a risk losing his life. This determination inspires me a lot. I didn’t work on my task until it was the deadline that I must hand in. If the task is too hard for me, I would rather let it be instead of facing it. However, this film changes my outdated concept; I have become more ambitious on everything and endure every challenge to the end. Thanks to this film, I turn a new leaf in my life and know more about the mid-eastern cultures.

In sum, watching movies can expand one’s horizons and enhance one’s thoughts. I have learned a lot of exotic cultures, reflected my past mistakes, and developed my good habits. I am the one of the beneficiaries of the films. As a result, I don’t agree that watching movies is time-wasting. Instead, movies make people more mature and play an import role in our society now. I can’t overemphasize the importance of movies.

Four films this week

I have watched a lot of films this week such as In and out(新郎向後跑) ,Sleepless in Seattle(西雅圖夜未眠), The bucket list(一路玩到掛) , and Jersey girl(紐澤西愛未眠).

I would recommend all of them because they are really inspiring films.

‘In and out’ is a film that Donna showed us in the oral training class. Why would she show us this film? Well, this is a film discussing about the self-confidence, the stereotype toward the love, and the self-esteem orderly. First, Howard who is a generous guy as literature teacher inspires countless students. One of his students then becomes a super star in Hollywood and gives a speech about his influential teacher, Howard that is gay. Suddenly, Howard’s life is in chaos. He tries to repress his sexual orientation, but he can’t continue lying himself after he got kissed. Therefore, he decides not to get married with a girl who has waited him for three years. In contrast, this girl who is not confident of herself is crying all over because she thinks there is no good guy in the world. Even worse, a gay teacher is not able to teach anymore because the board of directors dismisses his job. However, he is a competent teacher who helps many students enroll into ideal universities. Besides, he is just honest to himself and comes out of his secret to everyone. Who should be blamed for it and is he doing something wrong ? Anyway, this film brings a lot of controversial issues up. It leaves a lot of spaces to be discussed.

A blessing in disguise

I eventually succeed in applying for the exchange program. I will study in Innsbruck, Austria in the academic year 2008-2009. Though there have been so many difficulties and trials, I find all of them are good lessons making me more mature and more responsible. Today, I am trying to go over every difficulty in the process, and it dawned on me that every difficulty is connected to each other.

My TOEFL iBT socre is not so high compared with the competitors this year. I was feeling not very good because I spent 5500 NT dollars which I earned by myself taking the most expensive exam I have encountered in my life and there were still some problems at the day of my TOEFL exam. I was a little sad about this and afraid of losing the exchange opportunity not because of my abilities but because of the iBT’s problem. However, I still can go to my second choice, Innsbruck. My first choice is Tuebingen University, which is located in southern Germany. And my second choice is Innsbruck University which is located in western Austria. Because my TOEFL score is not high enough, I am not able to go to Tuebingen University. However, this is a blessing in disguise.

I contact a friend who is German studying in Innsbruck I met last summer vacation. He would return back this September as I do because he is an exchange student in Hong Kong now. And he is a very special foreigner I met in my life such as being very thoughtful, considerate, and generous. Hence, I really feel studying there is very cool now for me. Besides, Fanny who is Taiwanese will go to the same university together, and I can’t wait for the adventure with her and included Vicky who is also my classmate in the English oral training class. I think it will be really cool going there with them and find my good friend.

Of course, Kuba is also a cool foreigner who is willing to make efforts to keep in touch with friends from thousands of miles away. That’s really extraordinary because of what you have done. In addition, I think that Austria is much closer to Poland. That will be rock, and I hope I probably can have an exotic Christmas this year as long as anyone would like to invite me. Chi-lian who is a friend I made in Ballroom dancing club will leave for Poland to start his new life two days later. I hope I would also meet him there. Finally, I long for meeting my cousin who is now in Britain before she comes back to Taiwan. By the way, I also get a refund from ETS. Everything comes back with good results. In sum, I just can conclude it, ‘a blessing in disguise.’

Summary to 'Is anybody listening?'

In ’Is Anybody Listening,’ David Daniels claims that students required to be immersed in the discussion in the smaller classes will terminate students’ passivity and benefit students. According to Daniels, the lecture system has caused fierce controversy for many centuries. The lecturer was not challenged very often because of the scarcity of books. Likewise, the condition still exists nowadays. He gives an example of Mary witnessing the disadvantages of lecture system and then realizing that ‘the professor is as bored as his audiences nodding off or doodling in their textbooks.’ He says that ‘students must learn to listen before they can listen to learn,’ a useful tip for most of learners who are inclined to think instead of attentively listening. Finally, he suggests that students should be responsible for their ‘intellectual growth’ rather than depend on the professor only. Otherwise, the professor would sloppily lecture and not be beneficial to students. In fact, I have found that the ‘lecture system’ has influenced my life and the lives of people in many significant ways.

There were so many uncreative and compulsory lectures that I barely learned anything while I was still a freshman. Every class, students just sat down, opened the textbook, paid attention to the slides, and then turned into dozing off or daydreaming with their notebooks because professors only repeated exactly the same content from both slides and textbooks. That’s why professors are as bored as their audiences. Hence, either side is wiser than the other. Even worse, listeners only browsed through textbooks and memorized a list of unimportant truism for the final exam. Then they forget much of what they have memorized. I had two required classes, Introduction To Business and General Knowledge Lectures. I am so happy at that time due to the fact that I would have more understandings about the field of marketing. With the passion for marketing, I always preview every chapter that the professor will lecture and go over what I have learned. Nevertheless, I am gradually disappointed at the impersonality of the lecture system that professors taught in a boring way and forfeit the ability of learning driven by motivation. Only until I am junior and senor will I be able to choose the subjects interesting to me.

Big classes which seldom required students to bury themselves into discussions alienate the interaction between students and professors. Students are unique and have their own critical thinking toward everything. It’s much harder in big classes for listeners to share their ideas or questions with professors and classmates. Then, audiences can only listen attentively in order to acquire their desirable knowledge. However, there is a research showing that most learners can assimilate information easier through discussion instead of listening attentively. After all, the more you ponder about know-how, the more relevant it will be to you. I had a very good friend, Joseph, throwing up his questions to professors very often. Owing to the big size of classes, he usually couldn’t discuss with professors and in fact they are not so willing to respond to the spontaneous questions that students brought up. Hence, Joseph makes up his up to drop out of his college life because of his poor interaction with professors.

Seldom challenged approaches of unidirectional lecture would result in many social problems. Students -always learning from lecturers without pursuing their desirable knowledge- don’t have enough creativity and independent thinking. Once they encountered real difficulties in the world, they are not capable of solving fickle problems. In other word, they don’t even try to deal with fickle difficulties because they believe in one answer to the problem and are extremely inflexible to finger another solution out. Gradually, the suicide rate soars higher and higher owning to the fact that they never know what lives are and incline to evade the pressure. Likewise, because of their concrete minds toward jobs, they can’t endure the hard toil of the job to the end, complained all the time, and quit jobs easily. Therefore, unemployment rate is also getting higher and higher recently. One of my good friends, Jack, committed suicide three years ago. He, graduating from technical school, majored in computer science. He smoothly found his first job as a computer operator as soon as he fulfilled his compulsory military. However, he found that there were so many groups in the company, and he was forced take sides instead of being impartial. In addition, the orders from the supervisor would sometimes conflict with that of the leading manager. With the concrete mind and inflexible thinking, he decided to commit suicide because he doesn’t know how to solve it. Then what he remained is the brutal truth, making his friends inclusive of me and his family inconsolable

David Daniels has raised an issue that shocks us all, for all of us, in our lecture system, making consequences bad in the long run. We seldom face the long-existing lecture system. I am resigned to the system and awaited better when I am a junior and senior, and then I can be empowered to choose my desirable class; audiences in a relationship wishes that professors can interact with students, respond to their questions, and enhance mutual understandings and knowledge; and people gradually forfeiting the abilities of flexible and critical thinking lead miserable lives because of concrete mind that lecture system causes. We are, indeed, all victims of the lecture system. Maybe that lecture has been an inflexible curse on humankind for a long time.

Why have I been sick for one week ?

Some doctors can save your life; some can make your disease worse than you imagine. I was not diagnosed as the ‘exact disease’ at the beginning and the first doctor even threatened me with creeping warning. The situation was not getting well until I went to see another doctor. From now on, I know how important it is for patients to get treatments with ‘right doctors.’

Last Monday, I rode my motorcycle from National Chung-Hsing university to the金典酒店, which is located on 中港 road. My original purpose of going the education fair, held unitedly by the U.S. and Canada, is to understand more information of studying there. On the contrary, I met so many classmates from English department, who are responsible for interpreting between Chinese and English. To be honest, I didn’t find a lot of useful information because I had general understanding about the formalities. Except for it, I did have a great time there. There was a professor from Canada whose age is almost the same as my grandma promoting her university very much. Although I didn’t ask for anything initially, she was still vigorous to help me. I love her so much. Super cool grandma. And I also met two other instructors, resembling Jean Reno and Tobias Maguire. I give them a lot of wonderful information such as the best bar in Taichung and the best food in Taiwan. As a conventional Taiwanese boy, I suggested them to eat stinky To-Fu and omelet with oysters. What a ‘G’day’ is. Further, I also bought my new leather shoes for the interview, which decides my destiny of being exchange students.

Here comes the tragedy. I got a terrible cough and fever on the following day. I even lost my sense of direction, passing out in the PE class, and eating nothing. Hence, my roommate took me to the first doctor. The first doctor made a lot of bluffs to me. Before he said those bull shits to me, he asked me whether I saw other doctor advanced. How unprofessionally he is. And he threatened me to go back to his clinic every winter instead of telling me the truth. Four days later, my condition became much worse though I took all the medicine he prescribed to me. What a creepy doctor is.

On Sunday, my parents asked me to check another doctor. Then I knew the reason why I got a serious fever and cough. Besides, this doctor taught me the importance of wearing mask wile I took the motorcycle, especially in Taichung. Finally, I knew why I got the disease, which past bad virus into my body in the polluted air. Although I am not recovering yet, I indeed feel much better. Tomorrow, I will go to see the ‘latter’ doctor again to ensure everything is all right now.

BSB live band in Taipei arena

allentim520

On March second, I had a closest interaction with my superstar, back street boy (BSB). The first English song I heard was sung by them. Afterward, I have been starting learning English industriously since 8 years ago. For example, ‘Everybody’, ‘Shape of my heart’, and ‘The call’ are their masterpieces when they started to become one of the famous bands in the world. Although they can’t dance very well, their harmonious voices convey peaceful, enjoyable, and resounding messages.

At the beginning, my sister and I was hesitating whether to go to the live concert or not because she still needs to go to work on Monday morning as a English teacher. However, we suddenly found that this is a precious opportunity that BSB came to Taiwan twelve years ago. Try to imagine, how has s band remained popular over twelve years? Undoubtedly, they must have their unique feature and continuous efforts on their music. This is why BSB’s music has descended to this day. Without culture barrier, their songs are reaching everywhere in the world. For example, one time I went to KTV with foreigners from Europe, America, and Asia, etc. It was BSB’s songs that bridged the gaps among the different cultures. It was BSB’s songs that made us share the common memories in the past. Therefore, I couldn’t agree their influence on the world more. Finally, my sister and I spent 3500 NT dollars per each for the live concert.

The day is finally coming, and both of us are so excited to listen to it. Before entering Taipei arena (小巨蛋), we bought two lightsticks and spectacles so that we can wave our hands with the beat of music and see our superstars more clearly. Then we knew that we had worried too much because our seats are good enough to observe the all scenery of the stage. The opening song is really amazing though I forgot the exact name of it. However, four of them appeared with a good wrestling stage and humorous gesture. What an impressive and special opening for me is.

During the session, I prefer ‘ inconsolable’ , ‘I want it that way’, and ‘the Call’.
The second is also amazing. While they were playing cards, they sang the song with a relaxed attitude. Besides, Nick tried to refill his wine. That was really funny.

While Howie was singing ‘inconsolable’, he didn’t notice the gap in front of him. That’s why he fell down. The mean thing is that Nick sang the lyric, ‘Howie did you fall? ‘ That was really cool.

Brian said ‘you’ve been BSB been for a long time.’ And every one responded with the same word, yes. And he also recited every album that they have released and is curious about whether everyone heard all of their songs. Then he sang a newest song that is not released in the market yet. He is a ‘fun’ guy. I love his personality very much. I think I love him the most in terms of BSB this band.

AJ….He has a lot of ‘shocking ’ tattoo all over. But his gesture is really ’preposterous’. I remembered one of his gesture is that he forwarded his front part of his wait and backwarded it one after another…Try to imagine what it is gonna be.

A talented musician.. Nick can play a lot of instruments. And I am really indulged in his music world. That was really awesome. Besides, he is also the youngest one in this band. In the end of the live concert, Brian sticked his hand to Nick’s armpit . That was so ridiculous And he looks like a childlike boy after playing wildly for a whole day. What a spontaneous performance.

Anyway, thanks to my sister, Felicia, she invites me to participate in this live band with her. Therefore, I had this unforgettable experience in my life.
I love you so much, BSB.

My adventuring weekend

I have experienced the most adventuring weekends in my life. Why would I say that?
Sunday, I went to Taipei with my older sister. When we arrived in Taipei, it was about eleven thirty. Therefore, we walked around the breeze wind square, which cost substantial money. Although I have heard a lot of reputation about the breeze wind square from both magazines and TV news, I didn’t visit it in my life. After having a quick look of it, I started to understand why it is so renowned that tens of hundreds of people would like to have meals there.

Then, our uncle in Taipei picked us up and went to 菁桐, which is famous for the countryside atmosphere. Because my uncles children were studying in 菁桐, that’s why they almost know everyone in the small town. I love the tranquility there. Everything is natural there without any deliberate decoration. Besides, the education of the forest elementary school is good for the development of children because students seldom learn in the classroom. Instead, there are so many natural landforms can be used as the best material of geography class. For example , 十分 is renowned for the cascade and holes in the river. I have never seen the real cascade and spectacle cave in my life. It has been wonderful for me to gaze at the admiring scenery.
Finally, we went to 平溪, which is famous for the Chinese lantern. On January 15th in lunar calendar, there are always a lot of people writing their wishes on the lantern and then sent lanterns, which makes the dreams come true. I only saw it in the textbook. After having lived in Taiwan for 21 years, I finally see a real ceremony of setting off lanterns.

P.S. My sister and I also went to listen to the concert and I was a painter on Saturday. To be continued
