Essay 2 : Films can tell us a lot about the country where they were made?

Have you ever wondered about how you can learn from movies? Have you wondered about the extravagance in the movies? However, almost every movie has its precision behind it and conveys the authentic messages with its surroundings according to the latest statistics conducted by the American institute. The credibility of research is ninety-eight or so. Would this fact overthrow your concept? To be honest, I am convinced that people can learn about a country from watching its movies and reflect on their past mistakes because I have learned a lot by watching films. Die Zwilinge, Jersey girl, and The kite runner provides me with European, American, and mid-eastern heritage and inspires me in broader perspective toward life.

I realize how influential Hitler is to European history according to the film, ’Die Zwilinge.’ It’s a German film describing twins separated from each other. One treated as a maid is allotted into Germany living with her uncle; in contrast to one, the other lives with her parents in the Netherlands. After experiencing many formidable difficulties, they are reunited in Germany for the first in their life. However, both of their fiancés are the victims of brutal wars at that time. A Jewish is dead in the concentration camp because of the inhuman genocide; an Austrian general is dead because of the truce never coming. With my complicated historical elements, twins never forgive each other until the last sleep of them. Owing to the fact that this is German film, it galvanizes me into learning German and enhances my horizon to understand another different culture. War is the most devastating thing in the world, especially genocide that causes tremendous casualties who shouldn’t be involved into war. Even worse, that war shattered many family’s hearts into pieces either German family or other intruded European countries. The twins are the best example, demonstrating that the relentless war breaks their dream of reunion.

I learn a lot of American cultures and life issues through the film, ‘Jersey girl.’ Trinke, playing a leading role, suddenly loses his beloved wife, dying of metrorrhagia, and he has no choice but to take care of his daughter alone. He is fired because he can’t accept the sad and startling news of the death of his beloved and mess up all of his works. Besides, he needs to encounter more challenges at the same time such as being a good father for his daughter and being a good son for his father. After his daughter is nice years old, he knows it’s about time for himself to open his mind and allows others to walk into his life apart from his daughter, his beloved. Finally, he is struggling whether to get a well-paied job in New York or to stay in New Jersey with his daughter, father, and Susan who is like sunshine on his cloudy sky. This film reminds me that how hard I was when my grandma passed away and I also had the same reaction as Trinke did. For example, I didn’t want to study anymore s and suffered from insomnia for the heart-breaking new. Everything is in chaos and I can’t resist the unrelenting destiny. It’s just as well that my religion helps me get over the hard time in my life. After I know life is full of fickleness, what I need to do is seize the day to savor every minute I have now.

I finally understand that the abundant mid-eastern legacies with the cinema, ‘The kite runner.’ This movie proceeds in chronological order. Amir born in a rich family is the main spotlight that settings change with him, so it provides the audience with plentiful authentic atmospheres there. Hassan born in a slum is a servant for Amir. Both of them are best friends ever, but Amir never admits while his friends are next to him. However, it ends up startling me that Hassan and Amir are siblings because his dying father revealed the cruel truth. After all, monogamy is highly stated that if people break this rule, they will get capital punishment for impure intercourse. Due to his conscience about what he has down to Hassan, he risks his life to go back his mother land, Afghanistan ruled by the Taliban regime, so he can make up for Hassan by saving his son leading a miserable life. Actually, I originally read this novel, which is an assigned textbook for American college students. Afterward, I watch this movie adapted from the novel. In my opinion, I really admire Amir’s courage because he is not necessary to go back to Afghanistan. To get rid of guilt at Hassan, he decides to face the similar challenge again and do his best to solve the problem though he might take a risk losing his life. This determination inspires me a lot. I didn’t work on my task until it was the deadline that I must hand in. If the task is too hard for me, I would rather let it be instead of facing it. However, this film changes my outdated concept; I have become more ambitious on everything and endure every challenge to the end. Thanks to this film, I turn a new leaf in my life and know more about the mid-eastern cultures.

In sum, watching movies can expand one’s horizons and enhance one’s thoughts. I have learned a lot of exotic cultures, reflected my past mistakes, and developed my good habits. I am the one of the beneficiaries of the films. As a result, I don’t agree that watching movies is time-wasting. Instead, movies make people more mature and play an import role in our society now. I can’t overemphasize the importance of movies.
